Guest Speaker:  Cheri Chastain, Sustainability Manager, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s Sustainability Manager, Cheri Chastain, will share how Sierra Nevadahas been able to divert 99.8% of their total solid waste from landfill.  Cheri will share the brewery’s 10-year journey to bring the company to zero waste, the struggles and challenges that have come with that journey, and the successes that led to being the first Platinum Zero Waste facility recognized by the US Zero Waste Business Council.

Sierra Nevada’s zero waste program saves the company over $330,000/year and closes the loop on materials in manufacturing systems, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and creates jobs.  Zero Waste is an important piece to any sustainability program and one that can have incredible results.

Speaker Bio:

Cheri Chastain is the Sustainability Manager for Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.  Cheri has been with the company for 10 years and is responsible for educating employees on environmental issues and programs, maintaining and developing policies and projects related to renewable energy and energy efficiency, zero waste, alternative fuels, and water conservation and reuse.  Cheri also volunteers to contribute to policy and advocacy issues relating to sustainability.  Cheri is currently a member of the City of Chico’s Sustainability Task Force, Co-Chairs the Brewer’s Association Sustainability Subcommittee, and is a board member of the US Zero Waste Business Council.  Cheri has a BA and an MA in Environmental Geography.
