Whining noise from the rear that changes with speed – differential failing?

I’ve got a 2016 Jeep Wrangler that I use mostly for highway driving but lately there’s this noticeable whining or humming sound coming from the back that gets louder as I go faster. It doesn’t change when I turn or go over bumps, just straight up increases with wheel speed. At first I thought it was a bad wheel bearing but I had a shop check those and they said bearings were fine. Then they put it on a lift and said the rear differential might be the culprit because there was a bit of metal dust on the drain plug when they pulled it. Now I’m trying to find a place that does proper differential repair service Mussafah since I’ve heard that’s where most of the off road specialists are who actually know how to set gear backlash correctly. Has anyone here had a rear end noise like this that ended up being just worn bearings inside the diff versus ring and pinion gears? Really hoping it’s not the expensive option.
