Sustainability Manager, Waste Management
Amanda Fairley is the Sustainability Manager with Waste Management since 2008. She is currently the Sustainability Manager for the South Atlantic Area (NC, SC, and GA). In this role, she works with multiple municipalities to develop effective recycling and waste diversion programs. In addition, she works on projects focusing on alternative uses for certain waste streams. Before working in the South Atlantic Area, Amanda supported the Sacramento Nevada Area of Waste Management. There she had similar responsibilities and managed approximately 20 operational and facility improvement projects.
Prior to Waste Management, Amanda worked in Washington, DC as an environmental consultant for Tetra Tech EMI. Her primary client was the US EPA, where she assisted in organizing, developing, and leading training conferences and courses that taught US EPA employees about the Superfund program.
Amanda completed her undergraduate studies at Duke University with a BA in Environmental Science and Policy. While working as an environmental consultant, she completed her Masters Environmental Engineering and Science from Johns Hopkins University.
Amanda has been with the SMA since inception. She has served as the Vice President of the Board of Directors from 2012 – 2014 and President of the Board of Directors in 2015. She continues to serve on the SMA Advisory Board as a true asset.
